Volunteer Appreciation

The Rooted Carrot Co-op LOVES our volunteers! To show our appreciation, we are gathering at The Ragged Edge on Wednesday, July 26th. If you have volunteered in any way at all, please stop by between 5:30 and 7:30. Come when you can, leave when you must. The board will provide goodies and the Edge will provide the atmosphere!

Message from the Board – June 2023

Member-owners please plan to attend ONE of the following meetings this summer at the Cedar Falls Community Center:
Monday, July 24th 1:30-2:30 pm OR
Tuesday, August 15th 6:30-7:30 pm

The Board will share information about the many sites we have studied for feasibility and the current status. We will be seeking input from members on the future of the Co-op. We take this work seriously and we are grateful for the tenacity of this board, committees, volunteers and the community at large.

May 2023 Member Mixer Potluck

The weather was gorgeous, the food was delicious, and the conversation was lively at our May Member Mixer Potluck. Member-owners met in Washington Park in Cedar Falls on Wednesday the 24th. It was so nice to enjoy some spring outdoor time sharing a meal together. The Membership Committee hopes to host more picnics this summer. Stay tuned!

Mom’s Rhubarb Cake

Grab some rhubarb from your yard or at a local farmers market and make this cake!

This cake was served at our May Member Mixer Potluck. The baker made it with gluten-free flour and it was wonderful!

This is a must-try recipe. Enjoy!

Earth Week Clean Up

A huge thank you to those who came out in threatening weather to help clean up at Gateway Park. The rain waited until we were finished, and it was a nice chance to build relationships while doing something worthwhile for the community. Thanks to the City of Cedar Falls for coordinating city-wide projects for Earth Week.

Wellness Fair at Aldrich Elementary

The Rooted Carrot Co-op membership team participated in the Aldrich Elementary School Wellness Fair Friday evening. We shared information about the Co-op and our goal to enhance the health and well-being of the greater Cedar Valley. Students spun the wheel, performed a wellness-related task, and won prizes! Our spinning wheel got quite a workout! Thanks to those who organized this outstanding event. It was a lot of fun!

If your business, school, or civic group is hosting a similar event, please let us know! The Rooted Carrot Co-op wants to be there! Email details to: membership@rootedcarrot.coop .

CAPS Students Develop Student Membership Program

Cedar Falls High School CAPS (Center for Advanced Professional Studies) students Colby, Ella, and Natasia gave a 5 minute pitch about their project, the Rooted Carrot, at CAPS Demo Day! We are excited to be working with them to launch a new student membership for college students.

After selecting the Rooted Carrot for their client project, the students started researching the Rooted Carrot and the reasons current member-owners joined using both an in-person and electronic survey. While researching other co-ops, they found several that offered student memberships. They worked with the board to explore this option for the Rooted Carrot, and we are currently finalizing the details. Their next step will be reaching out to the colleges, educating and generating excitement among the students.
