January 2022 Board Update

Happy holidays and welcome winter!

Your site team continues to work diligently with the City of Cedar Falls Planning and Zoning department and the site developer to fully understand how the new code changes will affect the planned store site at 7th and Main streets in downtown Cedar Falls.  We as a Board are hopeful that answers will be forthcoming and we can share with our membership the anticipated plan!Continue reading

Capital Campaign drive starts soon!

Happy New Year from the Capital Campaign Committee!

“What the new year brings to you will depend a great deal on what you bring to the new year.”

Think about it. We all have wants and needs in our lives, and to achieve that which we desire, we must make a resolution, craft a plan, set goals, breathe positivity, and then GET EXCITED for results! Continue reading

If there is 3 inches or more of snow, snowshoes will be available free of charge during the guided hike. Continue reading

RCCM Book Club Update

Hello Members:

The book for December is “The Sweet Potato Queens’ Book of Love.” It is a fun read. If you would like to check out the book from the Cedar Falls Library you must go through the Reference Desk.

With the holidays approaching and everyone getting busy preparing for gatherings I thought we should meet a little earlier in the month. I have made reservations at The Ragged Edge Art Bar and Gallery, located at 504 Bluff Street in Cedar Falls, for Thursday, December 16 at 4:30 p.m. Even if you haven’t read the book or aren’t finished with it by that time please come anyway and we’ll just share some time together. The Ragged Edge is a fun little place that you should really check out. It is a quiet place to gather and see all the great local artists and authors that have their work available for purchase. And they make some amazing drinks, too (non-alcoholic and alcoholic options are available).

Please let me know if you would like to attend on the 16th. I will send out a reminder as we get closer to the date.

Cynthia’s Recipe Swap

Joe & Cynthia Foster with their Co-op yard sign in 2017

For those who have followed the Garlic Press over the years, you likely recall a series of recipes we published for several months from member-owner Cynthia Foster. We were fortunate that she shared her recipes along with the stories behind them in our Co-op newsletter – from apple upside down cake to cranberry sauce to posole – and oh so many more delectable recipes.Continue reading

24-Carrot Goal

The Communications Committee is getting excited about the next phase of the capital campaign, which is slated for early next year! We’ve been busy–you probably noticed in your email and on Facebook that we’ve created a month-long campaign called “24 Carrot Goal,” a play on the words 24-karat gold. Continue reading

December Board Update

November has come and gone—a sure sign that it was a busy month for your Board of Directors! Though many things were discussed and worked on, let’s cut to the chase: the site for the new store! As many of you have seen, the church that once occupied the corners of 7th and Main is being torn down as of this writing and there continues to be discussions concerning site details. As a board, we recently learned that a newly-approved City Code change took effect in November. This code change specifically addresses parking in the downtown area and will have an impact on our project. This impact is yet to be fully determined and we are actively working with the developer, developer’s team, and the City as we move forward.Continue reading

It has been a busy time for the Co-op! We hosted our annual member-owner meeting over Zoom last Wednesday, October 27th. The recording of that meeting and our annual report will be available soon. Our Board Elections wrapped up October 28th and we elected Lisa Nelson as a new member and re-elected Paige Everly and Kate Dunning as returning board members. We look forward to our board meeting this week to get to know everyone! Continue reading
