It wouldn’t be summer if we didn’t share at least one rhubarb recipe! Rhubarb is a great garden vegetable that requires little care and is quite prolific once it becomes established after a year or two. Rhubarb is also versatile, lending it’s unique flavor to savory and sweet recipes. It can be used to make sauces, syrups, chutneys, pies, cakes and much more with a little research! Don’t forget to freeze your some of your rhubarb harvest, as rhubarb is still not available during the winter months!
With this recipe you will be able to bake a cake that is light and flavorful, perfect time for summer entertainment.

Banana Bread
This recipe uses much less sugar than conventional recipes. We used stevia as a replacement for most of the sugar, but it’s still sweet and delicious! Remember when using stevia, it’s twice as sweet so you only need half as much.
Natural Egg Dyes Recipe
Ingredients:
1 handful Onion skins (dye color: dark golden orange)
½ head Purple cabbage (dye color: blue)
4 Tbsp. Turmeric (dye color:yellow)
2 Beets (dye color: pink)
Water
White distilled vinegar

With St. Patrick’s Day on the horizon, thoughts turn to the food and drink originating from the island in the North Atlantic. Among favorites here in the states is Irish soda bread, which is more commonly known in Ireland as “cake” or “cake-bread.” Found in many forms, soda bread at its most basic consists of four ingredients: flour, salt, baking soda, and buttermilk. Baking soda, or bicarbonate of soda, an alternative to yeast, is what gives the bread its rise. If you’re new to bread making, Irish soda bread is a great place to start.
Chocolate: The Gift of the Gods
Since its first cultivation in ancient Mesoamerica, chocolate has been seen as a special treat. It was first consumed as a bitter liquid and was thought to be a gift from the gods. According to Aztec legend, Quetzalcoatl was cast away by the other gods for sharing chocolate with humans, much like Prometheus of Greek mythology. Chocolate was a common drink in the Americas, and was even used as currency in the Aztec empire.
