Board Update October 2021

Fall is often a time to slow down a little bit after the hectic pace of summer – to consider where you are and plan for the months ahead. RCCM’s board of directors has been doing just that (except for the slowing down part!). On the horizon are the next active phase of the capital campaign, planning for securing the additional funding necessary for store construction, and welcoming new board members to our team.

The capital campaign committee has been working hard to gear up for the next active phase of the campaign, which will be starting in January. We are thrilled to have some new volunteers that have stepped up to serve on this critical team. Although we had great success in the first portion of the campaign, we did learn some things along the way that should make the second phase a little easier to navigate. Specifically, we’ll be using a new-to-us, but tried-and-true data management program that will streamline the process and make things easier on our volunteer callers! The site team and the board have also been working to make sure that cost estimates for the project are up-to-date, given the many changes that have occurred over the past year and a half. We feel a great responsibility to protect members’ financial interests, and have been gathering information from experts in construction and store planning, as well as meeting with consultants who specialize in start-up food co-ops. We have updated our proforma to reflect the most current cost estimates, and will continue to do so, as we know that these things are far from static.

Finally, we appointed a new board member this past month to fill the vacancy that was created when our former treasurer stepped down for personal reasons. We are thrilled that Gina Brown will be our new treasurer and chair of the finance committee. She has worked as a Certified Public Accountant for 10 years, and has been a volunteer on the finance committee for the past 6 months. We are so grateful to her for volunteering her time and expertise!

Voting for the three board of directors positions that expire this term is open October 6-28. We look forward to welcoming the new board members at our November 3 board meeting!
