2023 Membership Drive – March

New members who joined in February received tickets to the Maple Syrup Festival at Hartman Reserve. What a great way to support the nature center, a valuable asset to our community, AND invest in something new that will add value to the Cedar Valley in the future!

In March, new members will receive a curated selection of local products, purchased from our Community Partners. The first assortment includes chocolates from Stam, 12oz of special coffee from Cottonwood Canyon, and a $5 gift certificate to Hansen’s Dairy Store, all “served” on  a platter you can use for the next Member Mixer Potluck!

Thanks to those who are engaging with our social media posts. Keep up the good work!!

Scholarship Opportunity for Potential Rooted Carrot Member-Owners

Because of generous donations given to the Rooted Carrot Co-op Market’s Scholarship Fund by some amazing co-op supporters, we are excited to announce that the Rooted Carrot will be able to award $100 Member-Owner Share Scholarships.  These scholarships will cover the first $100 toward the membership cost for our friends who would like to become member-owners but cannot cover the full $200 member share cost.

We are in the final days of this scholarship drive. The final date to apply is March 15, 2023.

Please follow this link for additional information and an application form.

February Mixer Recap

Many member-owners gathered for a Mixer Potluck on Feb. 27.  Amazing food, great conversations, and a fun time was had by all.

Cedar Falls High School CAPS students attended and shared their project with us.  They will be working to gather information about co-op membership from current and future members. The findings from their research will help us to continue to build a strong base of founding members as we move forward. We are excited to learn from this talented, enthusiastic group!

Thanks to Second State Brewing for hosting this event, and for being a Community Partner!

Message from the Board – March 2023

Here is the latest update on what our Board, Committees, and Volunteers have been up to! Thank you everyone for all of the time you spend on bringing a Co-op to Cedar Falls!

Jodie Huegerich,
Board President

Site Information:

The site team was actively looking at one site for the last four to five months and we were hoping to be able to announce a location early in 2023. However, for various reasons we will not be able to move forward with this site. We are still actively looking for a location near downtown Cedar Falls. We have been seeking lease occupancy within established buildings that can either be rehabilitated or torn down to start fresh. Continue reading

Lamb Shoulder Bahn Mi

Some of the best lamb we have been fortunate enough to work with comes from Yellow Table Farm. Eric and his family take great care of their animals.

Slow roasting the lamb shoulder enhances the flavor which is super present in the fat. I typically take this cut to an internal temperature of 203 degrees then allow it to rest for at least 2 hours before shredding.

A simple rub of sea salt with clove, ginger, garlic, cinnamon and star anise will bring an interesting element of warm sweet spice to accent the light gaminess of the lamb.Continue reading

Our 2023 Membership Drive Continues!

All new member-owners who join in February will receive TWO TICKETS to the Maple Syrup Festival at Hartman Reserve which is scheduled for March 10, 11, &12. Become a part of something new AND support a long-standing local resource. Both will positively impact our community for generations. What could be better?

From the Hartman Reserve Nature Center website: “Maple Syrup Festival is a community event that celebrates the sugar maple trees at Hartman Reserve. Attendees enjoy all-you-can-eat pancakes topped with maple syrup, sausage, Sidecar coffee and Hansen’s milk & dairy. A raffle is part of this fundraiser as well as educational exhibits.”

We will reach out to all new members to ask your preferred date and time to attend, and will make your reservation accordingly.  Seating is limited, so the sooner you join the more likely your preference will be available. (While supplies last.)

Member Mixer Potluck (Everyone Welcome!)

Back by popular demand, we are hosting another Rooted Carrot Co-op Member Mixer Potluck. Bring a dish to share, bring friends, family members, or invite a random acquaintance. The more the merrier!

When?  Monday, February 27 at 6 p.m.

Where? Second State Brewing in downtown Cedar Falls (corner of State and Second streets, of course!).

Bring a dish to share, and, if able, your own reusable tableware (to keep from adding to the landfill).

If you have someone interested in learning more about the Co-op, please invite them to join you. Individuals who become new Rooted Carrot Co-op member-owners that evening will receive a Co-op t-shirt in addition to Maple Syrup Festival tickets (our current member drive promotion) if they are still available.

And don’t forget that as a member-owner you get 10% off beer draws from this fabulous local brewery!

2023 Scholarship Opportunities

Have you wanted to become a member-owner of the Rooted Carrot Co-op Market, but financial constraints have kept you from purchasing a share? We have an option for you!

Due to the generous donations of several Co-op supporters, we will have $100 scholarships to award. This means that you will only need to pay $100 toward a $200 member-owner share. We accept applications from November 1  through November 20, 2023. All applications and recipients will be kept confidential.

Speakers Available!

As part of the New Member/Owner Drive, we are seeking opportunities to tell groups throughout the Cedar Valley about the Rooted Carrot Co-op Market. If you are affiliated with a group that you think would like more information about the Co-op, please email info@rootedcarrot.coop, with “Speaker Opportunity” in the subject line.  Include a contact name, group name, meeting times/place, and any other information you think would be helpful for us to know. The Membership/Communications Committee will do our best to arrange a speaker to share their co-op story.
