Board Applications are due October 9th at midnight! Board Candidate Application Packet_2022.pdf – Google Drive

If you are interested and have more questions, please reach out to info@rootedcarrot.coop. A Board Member will be happy to reach out to you.

Why Join the Board? You can be part of a team that has a passion for building and advancing a cooperatively-owned local business; brings a unique grocery store stocked with locally grown produce to Cedar Falls; and helps make decisions regarding the store site, design, and hiring of the general manager.

We are excited to announce that Tom Blanford has submitted his application. We are looking for two more applicants!

Join current Board members Christine Sexton, Gina Brown, Kate Dunning, Paige Everly, Lisa Nelson, and Jodie Huegerich to bring the Rooted Carrot Co-op to the Cedar Valley!

Christine is serving her second term on the Board and co-chairs the Site Committee. As a public health nutritionist and Registered Dietitian, Christine is a passionate promoter of healthy lifestyles and healthy communities. She volunteers for the co-op because she understands the importance of creating a sustainable local food system that will benefit eaters, producers, and our local economy. When she’s not working with clients or cooking with her family, Christine enjoys trail running, yoga, exploring new places, and getting outdoors.

Gina was selected by the Board to fill a vacant Board position and the Treasurer position! She also co-chairs the Finance Committee! She grew up on a small dairy farm in NE Iowa before moving to Cedar Falls to receive her bachelor’s degree in accounting.  After graduation, she worked as an auditor and controller in property management in the Twin Cities.  Having a local food co-op is important to Gina because she is passionate about supporting local farmers.  Gina loves to attend musical theatre, container gardening, and taking care of her family and pets.

Kate is serving her second term as a Board Member that ends in 2024 and she is co-chair of the Site Committee. She is a business owner and mother of four teenagers.  She makes room for poetry, any kind of house concert, cooking, designing, writing, meditation, and yoga. Kate’s focus on the community is a priority, in that the more we attract and retain those interested in locally sourced goods and businesses, the more thriving the community is. One of her favorite quotes about business is from Steve Jobs: “You need to know what you don’t want as much as you need to know what you do.”

Paige is in her second term as a Board Member. She grew up in Cedar Falls and attended UNI. For most of her adult life, she has lived outside of the area, including a time in Iowa City, where she worked as a deli manager at New Pioneer Food Co-op. It was here that Paige caught the co-op fever, which she continued to cultivate through volunteerism in the various communities she lived in. Paige is committed to bringing the co-op principles and a sense of shared community to the city where she grew up and is excited to be back home.

Lisa is finishing her first year as a Board member and co-chairs the Communication/Membership Committee. She has been an Iowan her whole life, moving to Cedar Falls to attend college and choosing to stay in the Cedar Valley. A trained educator, her experience working with families and students from all walks of life heightened her awareness of the value of strong community connections, and she sees the co-op as one important piece in that. She works as a fiber artist and enjoys spending time with family, horseback riding and being a life-long learner.

Jodie is currently Board President and finishing her first term as a Board Member! She co-chairs the Communications/Membership Committee. As a Registered Dietitian and the regional Local Food Coordinator working at UNI Jodie is passionate about healthy, local food, and a sustainable local food system. She has been a member since 2015 and volunteers for the Co-op because of the exciting benefits it will bring to the community. She is a mother of three boys and enjoys reading, walking her dog, yoga, and spending time with friends and family.
