In the Land of Knights

The number of wonderful people who have joined the effort to launch the Cedar Falls Food Co-op grew last week by twelve. They have laptops. They call home places like Boone, Minneapolis, and even Hong Kong. And they like to wear orange.  We’re talking, of course, about Wartburg students.  Kim Folkers, an Associate Professor of Marketing at Wartburg College, invited the Cedar Falls Food Co-op to be a client of the students as they assemble and integrated marketing communications strategy for area start up businesses.

Last week, representatives of the Co-op’s board met with these students and we discussed the history, goals, and objectives of the Co-op. The students are seeking a variety of majors, including marketing and communications, and asked smart, insightful questions. We left excited to think about the plans that they’ll come up with this semester.

One part of this project that we didn’t know about until we met with the students was that they’ll be working on three separate plans. Three groups of four will each create an overall philosophy and strategy. In essence, they’re competing against each other for the best campaign for the Co-op. Very exciting!

We’re thrilled to have this class join our efforts, but there is room for others to jump in and lend talents. If you are interested in marketing, finance, graphic design, volunteer coordination, taking minutes, writing a food blog, or many other ways to further our effort, let us know. Wearing orange is not required!
